By focusing on Mohinder in India, episode eight is a haunting diversion from the rising tension in the USA, although Hiro meets a tragic waitress, and we see a new Eden.

Mohinder is back in India to scatter his father's ashes on the waters of Kanyakumari. He returns to his father’s office to unpack the other man’s possessions, and finds a locked drawer. Mira, an old girlfriend who once said terrible things about his father's theories, appears at the door. She's been promoted to be her company’s head of genetic research and wants Mohinder to be interviewed by the firm’s partners. The price however, is that his father's theories stay locked away.

Back in New York, Isaac awakes up to find Eden nursing him. "You'll be completely clean in no time," she says. "That mural on the floor, we're not going to let that happen." As she finishes shaving him, she tells him that she went through "the same thing myself."

Dreaming, Mohinder remembers an argument with his father shortly before he left abruptly for America to become a taxi driver. Mohinder tells his dad that he is a fool and is in danger of becoming a laughing stock over his theories, but Dr. Suresh says he doesn't care – that he knows who will be shown to be the real fool. As they argue, Suresh notices a mysterious boy.

Continuing their journey to New York, Hiro and Ando stop at a diner and meet a waitress, who likes Hiro as much as he likes her, but then tragedy strikes. Determined to save the nice girl, who seems to be just another victim, Hiro tries to freeze time, but simply vanishes.

Mohinder asks his mother about a dream where she told his father that Mohinder “could never take the place of her." His mother admits that Mohinder had a sister named Shanti who died when she was five years old, when Mohinder was only two. Mohinder’s father was convinced that Shanti was special and never told Mohinder about her so his son wouldn't compare Chandra Suresh's love of her and feel wanting.

Intent on getting back to her normal life, Claire focuses on Homecoming preparations, unaware of what's to come. Meanwhile her father and Eden focus their attentions on Isaac.

Mohinder finds the mysterious boy breaking into his father's drawer. Mohinder suddenly suffers a grisly vision of his father's murder in his cab in New York. Standing outside the taxi, the boy points at Mohinder, abruptly jolting him out of the nightmare vision. Back in the office, the boy opens a palm, offering Mohinder a key. When Mohinder wakes from this dream, he opens his father's address book to find the same key. Mohinder opens the locked drawer to find files on sleep research and a picture of the mysterious boy.
